| Follow up INFO for killing out of season To All,
I went down to the pond today to stake out where I'll be planting my fruit trees.
While in the neighborhood I stopped by the Adams County Sheriff's office and tracked down the Conservation Officer.
Officer Pensinger is a nice guy. I explained the situation to him and per his instructions I can kill as many muskrats out of season as I want. I gave him my name and my parents names (who are the landowners). I also gave him my cell contact info.
He said I need to contact him at the end of the year to tell him how many I killed. That was it. He didn't require any forms. He suggested using a shotgun for safety reasons. I agree that I would not want a ricochet off of the water hitting someone nearby.
I like this because now at least he knows my face. If I have a beef w/ someone trespassing or poaching (which I brought up) I can call him directly or the Sheriffs office to get it taken care of.
He also said he is "the guy" Allen County as well. On his card it says he is out of Columbia City, so maybe he is the guy for Whitley County too?
Anyway, thanks for the advice. It helped and w/ a little footwork now I'll never have to worry about it.
Regards,
Doug
PS - I wonder what muskrat meat is like???
