If any of you get The Rifleman magazine from the NRA, there was a pretty good article on the latest and greatest slug technology in it...I borrowed the mag, don't know when it was written. Probably last fall... The issue the article was in had the Auto Ordinance M1-Carbine on the cover.

But, what has been said: Rifled slugs = smoothbore. Sabot slugs = rifled slug barrel

You'll get better accuracy out of a sabot slug + rifled slug barrel than you will with a rifled slug out of a smoothbore.

Rifled slugs out of a smoothbore don't have any spin imparted upon them, thereby lessening downfield accuracy (as compared to sabot slug)

Also, in general, your "effective" range with a rifled slug/smoothbore is ~40% or so less than with a sabot slug/rifled barrel. 60-70ish yards vs 100-125ish yards.
