| Just to add real-world info, I have fired both rifled and saboted slugs from my rifled shotgun. The rifled slugs do make a mess of the barrel, but they function. Accuracy during my last range day with rifled slugs was about 12" at 50 yards using Winchester silver box 1oz. LRN rifled slugs in 2 3/4" shells. It's been some time since I fired sabots, but my best recollection is about 5" accuracy at 50 yards using Federal Premium hunting loads of saboted X-bullets in 3" shells. Weapon is a Mossberg 500 with rifled barrel topped with a 3x Tasco shotgun scope. Shots were taken offhand from a standing position and I'm not a great shot with this weapon, so I'm sure my groupings were fairly proportionate, but larger than the gun is capable of.
