This is exactly what I tell people who flame me for hunting. They have no problem eating a burger or chicken raised for that and didn't even have a chance but, when it comes to me spending hours in the woods for maybe one shot where so many variables can change in a matter of seconds and the deer has an even better chance of surviving than not...they don't like that.
