A big part of the philosophy is centered on "being in the world, but not of it".

Being connected to the power grid would make them "of the world", because it would be a dependence building part of their lives.

We are acquainted with several Amish and formerly Amish families; this is where we buy much of our food.

I for one think that if everyone lived like the Amish, the world be be a far better place. I routinely hold them up as an example of how one is self-sufficient, and not bother others. Can one BECOME Amish?
