Ok, here we go. I have family that is "amish". I have been to several of their sermons, and churches in my life. Around here, they call themselves "members". Most folks like that are actually called "Old Order German Baptist". People tend to call them amish for short. Earlier this year, A well known one to the community of the town of Camden was killed when his buggy was struck by an elderly motorist, also killing the horse (This is why elderly should not drive). They live the way they do because they feel they should live modestly and technology is "un Godly". After all, back in biblical times, they didnt have radios, tvs , cars, etc. Jesus always preached to be simple, self sufficient, you know, the clothes on your back and so on and so forth. They tend to be good people, but do have their issues with sin like the rest of us. Most that I knew sort of had a hollier than thou attitude if you knew them more than just passing by sayin hi. One thing I can say is they are VERY strong people. Shake one's hand once, you'll see. I bailed hay as a teenager, and we delivered some to some "dunkards" on several occasion. The young boys would toss the (slightly wet) bails of hay from the wagon up to the hay loft in their barn! Thats like 15 feet up. We would use the machine that is like a conveyor belt that the bails ride up. These (young, mind you) boys were tossing them like they were easy.
WOW. Anyhow, they are just VERY committed to GOD, thats why they are the way they are.
