I am diabetes type 2, insulin dependent, both long and short acting insulin. My body decided in the year 2000 to quit making ANY insulin, so I was insulin dependent from day 1 that it was found. Three of my 4 grandparents were diabetic, one brittle diabetic.

A couple of ideas for you:

- Talk to your endocrinologist about having an extra Rx on-hand in the case of a SHTF scenario where you would be unable to get to your doctor for another prescription.

- Some doctors, if you explain your fears, will help you create a small stockpile of reserve meds. Not usually painkillers or the higher-restricted meds, but insulin should not be much of a problem.

- I agree with Mr. Hoppes above. If you can reduce the need for your meds and keep the "extra" of the RX as a reserve, I would do it.

Remember, in a complete SHTF scenario, if worse comes to worst, veterinarian clinics stock insulin for animals, and it is the same insulin as adults take. Just make sure you take and eat a free dog treat out of the bowl as you make your way out the broken window you entered from!
