You enter the number of people you are trying to feed,then enter what you have on the tabs(12 or so categories,including store canned goods and a "custom made" tab).Then hit calculate.The only thing i did not see on any tab where oils(vegetable,olive,ect...so I used the custom and added them to my plan).This is by far the best for planning that I have ever looked at.

And no I am not going to say how I did...even I was kind of shocked at how well I am prepped currently.Took me awhile to enter everything but well worth the effort.It also said I needed more vitamin C,but I have that covered in supplements
