When I go into town, I throw on a concealed carry vest (thanks Pay It Forward Thread!) and go about my business.
My reasons are twofold:
First, I don't want to cause undue alarm to the general population.
Second, an almost 1/2" hole in the end of a .45 barrel looks big. It looks even bigger when it's a complete surprise.
Someone wants my wallet, I reach toward my pocket with my left hand, and... *SURPRISE!* bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang (reloading sounds) bang bang bang bang bang bang bang
