I'd love to get a 1911, preferably a Colt, but correct me if I'm wrong: Doesn't the basic government model Colt go for around $900? If so, that's way too pricey for me. I know I could get a Springfield for less than that with more options. Still, a basic Colt is hard to resist. I just don't think I can swing the cost right now. I just called Elmores though and they have a Springfield Milspec for around $600. That's probably the one I'll consider. Bob at Plainfield has a GI Springfield for around $500, but I'd rather have the slightly smoother finish in the Milspec, as any .45 I buy will be my carry piece as well as target.

I've also heard good things about Rock Islands and Tauruses, which are both closer to my price range.
