I'm not one for frivolous lawsuits, but the McDonalds case is a BAD example. Many people use it as a anecdote, but are incorrect on the facts. The McDonalds control procedures were off for their coffee. It was 20+ degrees higher that should be allowed at multiple locations. Many people stated that they drank McD coffe because it was "the hottest around."

"I drink McDonald's coffee because it's hot, the hottest coffee around," says Robert Gregg, a Dallas defense attorney who consumes it during morning drives to the office. "But I've predicted for years that someone's going to win a suit, because I've spilled it on myself. And unlike the coffee I make at home, it's really hot. I mean, man, it hurts."

The bottom line is the they DID serve it dangerously hot. The plaintiff offered to settle for a couple thousand dollars in medical expenses and McDonalds REFUSED MULTIPLE TIMES. This is why a $2.9 million verdict was awarded, because of arrogance and stupidity on the part of McDonalds.

That said, I avoid McDonalds like the plague, because I don't consider what they serve to be "food".
