Wireless Router Fried?

2 weeks ago when we had the bad storms my internet went out. It came back online but has been running slow and I had to plug directly into my computer... My wireless router would show a great signal but wouldn't connect me.

I have a comcast guy out here right now and he is trying to speed things up but he tells me my wireless router probably got fried and I need a new one?

Is this true computer people?
