Airsoft works great (I've never used Simunitions) if you don't wear a lot of padding (as mentioned in the article). Even the little spring-powered guns you can get at Wal*Mart sting, but the gas-powered guns have more velocity. Airsoft pellets will also break the skin, so face protection is a must.

After reading Randy's article above, I am also changing my opinion on what he calls "drills." I can see the merit more clearly now.

Randy had a bad A/V malfunction during one of his lectures in Memphis this past February, by the way. My crew of three guys had to leave in the middle because we had to get on the road, and he thought we were leaving because the lecture was bad. I explained in PMs on Glocktalk afterward, so all is well.
