I'm making this somewhat unusual post because I don't want anyone to miss this. I have one of these scopes and I'm very happy with it, even though I paid $55 more than it's selling for over the next couple days.

Please see my last post in the sticky thread at the top of this sub-forum. There's also plenty written about this particular scope (Konuspot 80) in that thread. Purchasing a scope of this quality for $145 is a no-brainer if you're in the market yet on a budget.

What distances are you using this effectively out to TB? I've got one in this price range (can't remember brand) and I'm not super happy with it if you get out too far out.

I don't have great vision so I'm not really the guy to ask. There's lots of great info in the sticky thread. I can say it's impossible for me to imagine anyone being let down by this scope at this price. I can recommend it without reservation based upon my direct personal experience.

For spotting scopes in general, what magnification would be needed for 500 yards? Assuming one has 20/20 vision?

It really depends on what caliber you are shooting, and what your target is. The bigger the bullet / the easier to see. And something like lead splatter on AR500 is much, much, much, easier to see than a smole hole a paper target.
