![]() | reloading party Anyone ever do one? I'd like to learn and try some equipment out before I take the plunge. I'm leaning towards a dillon 550 in 9mm, 223, 357, 38 special and 45. I'd like to work with one. Anyone ever do this before? |

![]() | I did. I flew out to Phoenix in 1992, went to what was the Dillon factory/HQ where they had all the machine set-up in the showroom, and tried them all out. Only then did I decide. Well, OK, I was sent out there by my employer for training and made a side trip in the rental car. It did help some, though. I was just going to look at some dies and maybe the Square Deal B. I bought a 550B, had it sent home, and have been happy with it in the 16 years since. I made the right choice for me (The SDB uses it's own proprietary dies and won't handle big rifle cases; and the 650, which was new then, didn't do anything more than the 550- at least that I needed- and extras like shell plates and tool heads cost more). But- I probably would have learned the same thing had I just called them. |

![]() ![]() | My dad was told by Brian Enos that the 650 was only a better option than the 550 if you load a crap load of a few calibers. My dad went with the 550 because he wanted to load pretty much every caliber he has. So far he is pretty happy with his decision. It beats the hell out of a single stage for everything except making super accurate loads which would be done mostly by hand and have a lot of time and care taken as they are made. |

![]() | I have taught several people the basics of reloading, but I don't let just anyone I haven't known for a while into my reloading room. Too much chance of "wow, I know where to come when I need such'n'such". I have 4 MEC Grabbers lined up for 12ga, 20ga, 28ga, and .410. Then I have the Dillon 550, and a Lee Challenger O-frame press set up on one side, as well as a Rock Chucker on the opposite bench. Then there is the Old Dillon 300 set up that I have been thinking of selling, currently set up for .44. |
