![]() | Geez, that's a name I haven't heard in many a year! I had been under the impression that the company and name had long ago quietly folded its tent and passed into history. Founded by Lee Jurras back in the late '60's or early '70's, IIRC, they were pioneers in developing and marketing JHP ammo that could be relied upon to deliver consistent expansion and terminal ballistic performance in handgun calibers. Their approach in most loadings was usually to sacrifice projectile mass to gain velocity, which was about the only viable way to achieve the performance standards they wanted at the time. The state of the art and technology of projectile design and fabrication and the chemistry of propellents were very different then. Super Vel's success was the stimulus directly responsible for the advances in those arts we currently enjoy, IMO. |
