Ultramax ammo

Anyone have any insight on Ultramax ammo? I was thinking of ordering some for my .45. I was wondering how accurate is it and is it real dirty? Also the address listed is for South Dakota, is this ammo made in the USA or is it made out of country and imported?

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure it is made in USA. It's accurate enough, but it is very dirty. I use it sometimes when I don't feel like reloading .38's.

It's right up there with Wolf. I shot it at FNS once and my king cobra looked like it was anodized in military black when I was done...

The UltraMax 9mm that I bought from Dick's was lead with no jacket.

Slightly better than American (A-MERC), IMO. Dirty as all get-out, lot of unburned powder leftover.

It is dirty, but it is reloadable. I don't think it is as bad as Wolf though...

It could have been a couple of bad batches, but I don't like it in 9mm. I love it in .45acp and .223, because I have never had a single issue with it, but it is the only ammo I've used that has caused my CZ75SP-01 to FTF, and it doesn't get much more reliable than a SP-01

BTW, I guess I can't say for a fact it is American, but there is an American flag on the box.

Stay far away from their rifle ammo. It is responsible for destroying several guns.

Ultramax makes use of Accurate Arms powder. Unlike their rifle powder, AAs pistol powder always seemed dirty (especially #9). I switched to Alliant and Hodgdon just for that reason alone.

The rifle ammo is sort of blah and can be violent as Shay says. Lots of Politzi use it for training, which due to demands, can have quality issues. HSM had (Had being the key word) quality issues with their ammo due to demand. Ultramax does have issues, but hasnt rectified them.

If its for a large quantity/strategic reserve, I would look at HSM or similar, not Ultramax though. If its for a few boxes, take a look at Walmart and the Blazer brass series. Not terribly expensive, decent quality and wont blow up your gun like Ultra could!
