![]() | Sling for AR-15 Ladies and Gentlemen, I need a sling for the Tactical Carbine-Pistol Class hosted by Sheriff Ken Campbell and YFI. I will be using a standard AR-15 for the class. Any recommendations on a tactical sling? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Your two best choices are either a single point sling (many, many makes and models available) or one of the two point adjustable slings like the Viking Tactics VTAC sling. Single point slings are very simple and work well if you understand their limitations (the gun will bounce around and swing if you don't secure it somehow when you are moving, which may or may not be a problem). The adjustable two point slings are more secure, but they do not allow the same amount of freedom for changing shooting positions (like switching to support side). There are too many single point slings to recommend a brand or vendor. I like the versions that have a piece of bungee in them, but some do not. For the two-points, I can recommend: Viking Tactics - the standard for adjustable 2-point slings URBAN-E.R.T. SLINGS, tactical weapon slings, single point sling, AR15 sling, 3 Point Sling - this guy is in Indiana if you wish to patronize a local. Also, he makes single point slings as well as a nifty sling that can be converted back and forth from a single point to an adjustable 2-point.

Think about the average police CQB application - get out of the vehicle, gear up, go through the house, go back to the vehicle. For everything else, the adjustable 2-point in the VTAC or BlueForce Gear style is probably the best general-purpose solution. Transitioning to the support side is marginally slower than with a single-point, but the other advantages of the 2-point more than offset this perceived shortcoming. The only guns I have with single-points on them are my AK-105 and 9mm SBRs, and that's only because I haven't scraped up the cash for a couple more VTACs yet... I've seen and played with some of the UERT slings, and find them to be overly bulky and complicated compared to competing products. Here's another local making good slings: Gear Sector | Supporting America's Finest and the Weapons they Carry. |

![]() ![]() | shooter521 makes a good point. single point will work fine for your class, but maybe not so much if your going to hump the gun a ways. i run single points on all my rifles, but my long patrol days are long gone. that hump from the bedroom to the kitchen works out fine with the single point. hehe.

![]() ![]() | we are issued 3-point slings from one of the million makers out there(sling system i think) Obijohn is right, if it is gonna be an extended day, the 3 points are nice.but for most practical pourposes go one point, far less material to get yourself tied up in
