I appreciate the service of the people who showed you how to shoot. However everyone I know who has been in the Military, or any flavor of law enforcement that I have gone shooting with, uses their sights.

Index shooting at less than arms Length I agree, you can hit center mass without using your sights. Beyond that use your sights. See Post #2 for a number of sight suggestions.
