![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I never would except for possible light calibers in winter if penetration was in question. Most defensive calibers could over penetrate and continue after passing through the center of mass and potentially striking an innocent. It also takes more rounds to put down a threat. This makes it a disadvantage for you and other innocents. It can also be an disadvantage for a bad guy as well. One study I read talked about how hollow point rounds can be more survivable than FMJ rounds. The single entrance wounds and bigger wound cavities was not as likely to be fatal when treated quickly as many more times entry and exit wounds and associated smaller wound channels that would be required to stop the threat using FMJ.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I do not, even in small calibers like .32 and .380. I know a few guys who do so in those calibers, opting for adequate penetration vs. possible (and minimal) expansion. If I were to carry something dinky like a .22 or .25, I probably would. |

![]() ![]() | Not me Almost all my carry time is in a urban environment and the last thing I want is a round to penetrate through an intended target and hit an unintended one. I've always believed the ideal round for "social work" would expend 100% of it's energy in the intended target. It's hard to get a FMJ to do that. Bear in mind, once you launch that bullet, you own whatever damage it does, intentional or not.

| alpha-mike-no shoot | *Raises Hand* I do, but only in my P32 and for two reasons. 1. Penetration 2. To avoid rimlock. FMJ rounds have a greater OAL than JHP ammunition. They don't shift front to back in the magazine as much and lower the chances of creating rimlock with the .32acp semi-rimmed brass. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | As the only common caliber that even approaches a decent stopping ratio using FMJ's is the .45ACP, my answer would be "no flippin' way"!!! ![]() ![]()
