  | Gun Safes retailers? Hey, all. Since I have a little one on the way (wife is due in March  ), I have started the hunt for a good gun safe. I've noticed several places carry various brands/models, and prices are all over the board. I've seen safes at Lowes, Sams Club, Dicks, and Gander Mountain. Cabelas is a 2-hour drive, but I've browsed their website a bit.Can anyone recommend a good retailer (price and selection) or a good brand of safe (something found at many retailers)? Looking for something to hold a few (2-3) long guns, ammo (1000 +/- rounds), a few handguns, and general storage of other important items. It doesn't need to be huge. Needs to be fireproof, which eliminates whatever brand is the "inexpensive" green lockboxes. Our personal protection pieces will be in quick-access bed-side boxes, so the safe can be secure (ie: actual combination lock). I really have no clue what I'm looking at most of the time. Just an idea of what "looks nice". So, I thought I'd talk with the experts  .

| I saw what appeared to be a pretty nice, large and very heavy gun safe at Costco for around $500. Don't recall what the fire/temperature resistance rating on it is. The darn thing was locked and I didn't have the combination to open it to check out the inside. I tried to tip it and couldn't even budge it. Obviously not something one person could carry home. | If you'd rather do the online thing... Shop Safes: Gun Safes, Gun Cabinets, Fire Safes, and Handgun Safes! Their prices are on par with what you'll find elsewhere....shipping can be pricey. |

| How about one of these? American Security AMSEC TF Series 11 Gun Safe Fire Proof: Auto Life Sporting Goods A local store had one and it caught my eye. Some fire protection for a little more than the stack-on with none.

| I picked up a nice one at Tractor Supply Co on US 31 north of Westfield. List was $350 on sale for $299. Right size not a big one but fits nice in my coat closet. Sentry Gun Safe Model G6211-2b. 10 gun max.Exterior 55" high x 17.5" wide x 17.75" deep. Bolted it to the floor... nice |
