I wanted to start carrying my P229 with the .357 Sig barrel while my Legion is in the shop. I don't know what brand of SD ammo is good for carrying, so I thought I'd ask INGO.

    Thanks :yesway:

Way back when I carried a Glock 33 I used Gold Dots. Never had a problem, good ballistics, low flash. Make sure that the bullet is designed for the 357Sig and not just the same bullet used in 9mm. With the extra velocity the round will not preform the way it should.

Thanks for the info. I'll see if I can find any in one of the local shops this weekend. The only stuff I know I can find is some of the new Sig Elite Performance ammo, or whatever it's called. Point Blank has some and I think it's on sale this weekend. I just don't know anything about it.

You can over do it with velocity in the 357 Sig. Some of the other companies honk them up so high they don't work as well as the 'slower' factory versions.

Found some Speer Gold Dots for a decent price online and ordered a couple of boxes. Decided the weather was too crappy to drive around looking for some locally.

I've always liked the 357Sig. It's got some serious noise and a bit of blast, but it's very flat shooting and accurate. I sold my 33 to a friend many years ago. I wish I still had that gun. It was one of the first 33's produced and had the smooth front strap. I've thought about picking up a G32 a couple of times. Ammo around here is impossible to find so I'd have to order it online. I've still got 150 rounds of Gold Dot sealed in an ammo can someplace.

I don't care for the 40. There's just something about the recoil impulse that doesn't feel right. The 357 seemed to rock back & forth in the hand during recoil with the sights dropping right back on target. The 40 felt more like I was waiting on things to stop then re-align the sights. Using a timer my shots were both quicker & grouped better with the 357.

Interesting. In my P229 the .40 seems to have less recoil to me, but the .357 Sig is more fun to shoot :D

I have a box of Gold dots areound here somewhere if you want them. Bought a .357 barrel for my 27 and sold the gun before I ever used it.

The P229 was designed as a .40, not an adopted 9mm platform. It's a more pleasant .40 launcher than most due to that, and is much less "flippy" than Glocks, IMO.

That would be awesome, what do you want for them?

Agreed. It's a very pleasant shooter, especially compared to a Glock.

I really like that round. The bullet is heavy jacketed like a 357 magnum would be not in the standard 9mm design thickness.

when I was carrying my sig 229 and 226 I used a corbon 125 grn. jhp or Hornady 124 grain xtp. both shot very well out of both pistols.
