Long story short, i was looking ex military hummers for sale and found one that i planned on buying but i didn't find it until 10pm. I waited until i woke up this morning to put a deposit down to hold the vehicle, but the thing was sold by the time i got up. The vehicle was perfect. It was a frame off resto with an engine rebuild in 08. It was painted tan, had the high back seats and the LED headlights...etc etc :(

I'm currently looking for another hmmwv m998 H1 to call my own and i can pay cash. The issue i have is that i just cant seem to find any for sale anywhere. I've seen ultra restored ones going for $100,000 and thats out of my price range. Does anyone know any good sites that may have some for sale at decent prices? Really any DRMO stuff would be great.

When i call car places and say, "i would like a hummer" they just hang up on me. I have money...give me a hummer.

Military HMMWVs that find their way into civilian hands are disavowed by GM. It'll be difficult to impossible to secure any repair or replacement parts for it. They're not supposed to find their way into the DRMO channels. They're supposed to be remanned if possible and mutilated and recycled if not.

That being said, try govliquidation.com and/or govdeals.com. Also, try steelsoldiers.com. They have a forum for HMMWV enthusiasts. They might be able to help further.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone, i'm checking them as i type this.

I had been on Ebay a few times and found 1 in the last year. I bid on it and lost as someone was willing to pay $50,000. Ebay often has the WW2/Korean war jeeps and deuce 1/2 trucks. Hummers are still hard to find.

Gunbroker is an interesting idea...well i just checked and they didn't have any, though they did have a mount for a TOW missile launcher which is cool.

Cathy, you just may be my savior...steel soldiers is chock full of good info.

I think i may have found a Hmmwv builder. I sent him a message about a down payment on his next build hopefully he can make it happen. Please keep the suggestions coming as i don't want all my eggs in the same basket, and a big thanks to those who helped so far

I did see those, i would prefer the military version though as it has some extra cool features and doesn't have some of the more lame ones (alpine stereo and high price tag). I did find another for sale in my price range so contacting that guy tomorrow! Wish me luck!

Ok gotcha. I know I looked at them online with a coworker a couple years ago but I can't remember where. Whoever it was got them so the myth of "they aren't out there is" is not true.

There is a forum on the 'net (go figure) for collectors of military vehicles. It's called steel horses or steel warriors or some such along those lines. The GFs S-I-L was showing it to me the other night while I was over looking at his newly acquired mid 80's diesel military blazer.

There is a large military vehicle recycler somewhere between Bloomington & Crane (I think). My neighbor bought his 6X6 there and he told me that this place was a wealth for military vehicles and parts. They do have a web site and sell bare bones to totally restored.

You've proven to me once again that you have more money than sense. But I'll overlook that if you take me for a ride in it.

The military trucks are all 24 volt, and parts for the electrical and charging system would be hard to come by if you are stuck out on the road somewhere. I have also heard horror stories trying to plate and insure a military truck. If I were you I would look for an early H1 that has a turbo 6.5. The 6.2 NA motors are ok, but really lack the power to go down the highway. You can always make the civi H1 look just like a HMMWV and you will have a normal 12v charging system.

    You'll be uncomfortable...

The intrusion of the transmission housing and driveshaft tunnel into the passenger compartment takes up a LOT of room.

Granted - this is all by memory from a civilian version at the auto show several years ago.

NAPA carries the isolated ground alternators you need for the passenger side in the 24v setups.I have had no problems finding parts at all. Most have a civilian application as well. The starter is an MT27 the same as many tractors(farm),construction equipment, and even some tractor trailers.
There is also plenty of information about turning the 24V system to 12V,even an official guide from the US Forestry service as they converted all there vehicles to 12v.Personally I like the 24v better.

I was in Pizza King the other day and I saw a posting on the bathroom wall that Jill is a Hummer Enthusiast. Next time I'm in there, I will be sure to write down the number.

A friend of mine has a 1996 (I think) civilian wagon. He belongs to the Illiana Hummer Club (Welcome - Illiana Hummer Club). He loves it, and it definitely gets attention. Big maintenance bills, though.

Steel Soldiers probably has the best classifieds (Vehicles for sale). Good luck finding one local.

If you ask me, they are over-rated. Huge, unwieldy, under-powered, and they don't fit hardly anywhere (on or off road). The interior is incredibly cramped, and they can't even tow much. Sounds perfect for you!

If you got money to burn, why not, right? :D
