    Today my travels lead me to a small beach where the first Allied landing took place during WW2.
    Canadian forces landed on that beach on the 19th of Agust 1942.
    They all either got killed or captured by the Germans as soon as they landed.

    Over 200 men died in 3 hours.

    On that picture from 1942 you can see that the beach was filled with bodies.
    The only soldier standing is a German soldier.

    Only the prisoners left the beach alive.The other never made it past those steps.

    You can see the same wall right behind my shoulder were that picture was taken.

    That's quite a wierd feeling to walk right where 75 years ago the ground was filled with dead bodies.
    That makes that plaque the more powerful.

    I spotted more fortifications along the coast.

    Some on top of the cliffs ... some camouglaged as part of the cliff.
