Guy gets bike stolen. Guy finds bike for sale. Guy takes bike back.

Long read...

Stolen Bike on Craigslist - Should I go Vigilante? Chaos inside - Page 2 - NASIOC

I'm thinking the outcome would be very different with the INGO crowd. You can skip to like page 14 or so if you want to cut to the chase.

Oh how I wish I could read this here at work...

My freshman year in college, the ONE night that I didn't lock my bike to the railing outside my campus apartment...it was stolen. Not a HUGE deal, mind you, it was just a cheapie Walmart mountain bike. But I'd mounted a little kid's squeeze horn on it, dang it!!

Couldn't do anything about it...it was gone.

Or so I thought.

I went down to the computer lab in our building. This room had a west-facing window. As I sat down there, I casually glanced outside. Low and behold, leaning against the building immediately west of where I was sitting, was my bike!!

I sat there for 10 minutes or so just hoping that someone would come out and hop on the bike. I planned on rushing out of the apartment and laying a nice flying-tackle / clothesline on the jerk. It didn't happen...

I just took my bike back up to my apt. and locked it up.

No sir. But I know a guy that has two. Outback and WRX.
No, that link was posted elsewhere.
I do have a bike or two or three, though.

My favorite car is a Subaru Impreza Wagon... You can haul the children in the back, with groceries and beat most cars off the line so your ice cream doesn't melt.

I RESENT this statement! I am very trustworthy and I'm not a liar.

Real advice: Go with a friend, no matter what. Don't show up alone. Don't bring a girl, bring someone who can fight.

Show up to the meet with $50 cash and nothing more. No cell, no wallet. Same goes for your friend. Drive to the meet, but park a block away out of sight and walk there.

Tell him it's your stolen bike and that you're willing to pay him $50 for his time. Don't accuse him of stealing it, just offer to take your bike back. If that doesn't work, and the guy gets angry, defensive, crazy, walk away. Just walk away.

Like someone else wrote, this guy could be an ex-Marine for all you know and you could get seriously hurt and end up ****ting in a bag for the rest of your life over a stupid bike.

But all of the revenge fantasies won't work. Here's why. Beating up the guy isn't enough. He'll heal eventually and he knows where you park your bike. So he's going to then stalk you and kill or cripple you a week or a month or a year later. If you want revenge for your stolen bike, you'll have to injure him to the point where he can't retaliate. Even if you put him in a wheel chair, he might hire someone to retaliate against you. So that means killing him and that's kind of an over-reaction to your bike being stolen.

I feel for ya. I had my bike stolen too. It sucks. But if you want to solve the situation, go there, offer the thief an out, offer him some cash so it's not a total loss for him, and hopefully you will get your bike back.
Best advice I've seen yet.

I too started to expect blood and cops and some p**** in white loafers to be laid out on the ground with some guy riding his bike away giving the camera the

How disappointing is that?

This made up for it:
