What are the options for rural internet access?

Would the wireless internet through verizon be with a new wireless card in my laptop or do they offer other options to allow more than one computer access at a time?

Who offers the line of sight wireless?

They do offer some options other than a wireless card or wireless USB modem. One of those options is a hotspot which is just a small wireless enabled router. I doubt it would have good range as I believe its intended use is to allow people working in a meeting to share the signal (so fairly close).

Another option is to configure the computer that has the wireless modem plugged into it to function as a wireless router to share the connection. It does work, but it will only be as powerful as your wireless card in the computer.

There are other options but they become much more difficult and messy. Hope that helps some. The line of sight wireless I know much less about.

If you were to get an unlimited wireless data plan, you could use the air card in conjunction with a router. Then just plug a few computers into the router.

We use a very similar set up here at work.

I tether my Cellphone to my laptop when traveling or have no internet access. I have AT&T and when there is 3G available it's quite fast. Even when only the EDGE network is available it's still not bad. Not fast but definitely do-able.

You might want to consider Verizon broadband access my son drives a 18 wheeler and uses it all over the U.S. not as fast I think about 728k limit or somrthing like that. About $40 per/mo.
