Phone spammers *sigh*

You know, it's bad enough that CallerID information can be spoofed, but I really wish that the phone companies (especially my cell phone provider) offered a way for me to tell callers who who are spoofing their CallerID to go eff themselves. I don't want to block unknown numbers (which I could certainly do), but if a CID number shows (305) 000-6398 (like my latest one), I'd like my carrier to not bother ringing my phone but instead play a pre-recorded message and then punch them in the face over the internet. The FCC can't or won't do a darn thing to help me because the numbers are completely fake. I'm tired of wasting my time and money on phone spammers.

I need a phone that displays ANI information that doesn't require me to build a PBX.

I think I'm just going to have to build an Asterix box and set up voice-mail hell for any unknown numbers and couple that with Google Voice for phone aggregation.

After that you could always route the IP traffic through the flux capacitor and do some deep packet flumoxation with an SLFKD box. Then all of their flounced krimpets would just fall off!

I had one of those "off numbers" call me onetime and it was someone speaking in who knows what language. when I called the number back it rang into a 911 somewhere.

I wish. Asterix is an open source, free PBX (a PBX is what your company uses to handle all its incoming phone calls and voicemail) and can be built on personal-computer-sized equipement for very little cost. Google Voice is a service from Google (formerly from Grand Central) that gives you one phone number and lets you route calls to multiple phones (home phone, cell phone, work phone, etc.) in a way similar to what a PBX will.

I could publish my Google Voice number, have it forward to Asterix and set up the voice mail on Asterix to dump unknown callers into an endless loop of voicemail prompts. I could say "If the number starts with 000, play the "Eff You" message and then hang up."
