Thumbs down BEST BUY ads ignore Christmas, celebrate Muslim holiday

Anyone notice the Best Buy ads in their local paper?

Big Government Blog Archive Best Buy Ditches ‘Christmas’ But Celebrates Muslim Holiday in Fliers

by Warner Todd Huston

Christmas. Who needs it? Not Best Buy, that’s for sure. After all, Best Buy is loathe to use that hateful word in its advertising. It’s so “religious” and tinged with racism, America, and tradition. It makes Best Buy shudder to think of using that foul word, Christmas. But, advertising for the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha? Heck, why not? What could be more welcoming and tolerant?

And so, Best Buy has issued a Thanksgiving sales flyer wishing all good multi-cultural, Muslim loving Americans a happy Eid al-Adha this year.

Don’t you feel your heart warming already? Isn’t your PC bone tingling with happiness? And aren’t you secretly gleeful that those rotten, evil, reactionary, hatemongering Christians are getting theirs… even if Christians do make up about 75 percent of the United States?

Well, let’s give Best Buy a hand for its politically correct sales flier excising that horrid Christmas nonsense and being enlightened enough to help us all convert to the “Religion of Peace.”

Thanks be it to Allah and Best Buy for helping us forget little things like the Khobar Tower bombing, the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Towers, the attack on the U.S.S. Cole, 9/11, or that silly little incident with Nidal Hasan at Fort Hood. It was but a trifle, after all.

In this happy Eid al-Adha season we can thank Best Buy for its sacrifice, too. For its sacrifice of America to its enemies, for the sacrifice of our traditions, religious principles, and culture to an alien, hostile ideology. We can thank Best Buy for helping organizations like CAIR to spread its message of cultural jihad.

Yes, thanks Best Buy for showing us how to be better “Americans.”

Now go ye forward and shop, America. Happy Eid al-Adha to everyone. And don’t let PETA stop you from buying that goat. And don’t mind us, folks. We are just committing cultural suicide is all.

The same advertisement was noted in an On-Line tech/gadget website:
A storm is brewing at Best Buy
A storm is brewing at Best Buy
by John Biggs on November 23, 2009

Here it comes: Best Buy ran a national Black Friday ad inviting the world to celebrate Thanksgiving and Eid Al-Adha, the Muslim festival of sacrifice. Fair enough, right? Happy Eid! Well, take a gander at the ad up there and brace yourself.

Look closely. You’ll probably miss the good will and wishes, they’re so innocuous.

So you’d think that a national retailer would be praised for trying to reach out to its Muslim visitors and you’d also think that since Black Friday comes around Thanksgiving, an ostensibly “conservative” holiday,” they’d be excused for not putting baby Jesus in the carriage Toad drives in Mario Kart Wii on the first page of its Black Friday ad.

Nope.

The s-storm brewing at Best Buy is going to overtake the news cycle in a few days. Here’s an example of the rhetoric:
Among my major purchases from BB over the years were a plasma big screen, a fridge and a laptop. No more. In 2006 you discontinued the use of ‘ Merry Christmas’ in your “holiday” messages.

Yet one of your ad inserts wishes your customers a happy “Eid Al Aldha” ( a Muslim goat throat slitting festivity) . Clearly the liberal/ PC culture in your corporate offices is biased against Christians and traditional American values. So, in 2009 I discontinue Best Buy. Good riddance.

Hello A m a z o n

- A proud patriotic Christian American.
While I’d be happier if they celebrated a real holiday like Festivus, can’t we give Best Buy a break? This is literally the first time I’ve ever seen any major retailer celebrate Eid, it’s a nice holiday for millions of Americans, and it’s nice for BB to note that yes, it is coming up soon. And let me assure you that next week’s flyer will probably include dancing angels, Moses riding a jet-ski, and What Would Jesus Buy HDTV buying tips.

Thoughts?

I see no problem with this. Was our country not founded (in part) for religious freedom?

Christians do bad things too.

Wow, hope you didn't strain yourself coming up with this. The issue that melensdad is presenting is that Best Buy refuses to say Merry (or Happy for our English cousins) Christmas. They feel it is too overtly religious. Yet they wish to extend some holiday for the slaughter of a goats to Muslims. Why do one and not the other. If they had not stamped out Merry Christmas, I don't think most would care if they wanted to say Happy Goat Killing day, Happy Festivus, Happy Hannukah, Kwanzaa, etc.

Exactly. Lyric911 completely misses the point. Further (s)he then goes on to change the topic, which has nothing to do with the posts above.

If a store recognizes a minor religion, one that only represents a small % of the US population, then why would it ignore the major religion, of which most of its customer base would be members of?

In essence, why celebrate the trivial while offending the majority?

I can understand if they choose to simply ignore ALL religious connotations and simply place a "HOLIDAY" advertisement. That would be easy for them to defend as a neutral position. But to align with one while intentionally not aligning with another is non-sensical.

I just looked up and found that "Eid" was two days ago, the 26th of November (this year, anyway).

Given that fact, I'm willing to adopt a "wait and see" attitude. If BB reverses their stance and again extends Chanukah, Christmas, etc. wishes, I cannot then find fault with them extending "Eid" wishes.

I would like to note, however, that by extending Thanksgiving wishes, they are by definition recognizing religious holidays: Was not the first instance of that celebration held to give thanks to God for His blessings and bounty?

You don't get a whole lot more religious than that, despite the current focus being more on engaging in gluttony than on expressing appropriate gratitude to one's Creator.

ETA: I do not in any way suggest that their recognition of Thanksgiving as a religious holiday originally celebrated by Christians was intentional. For that matter, retail celebrations have been more about ˘hri$tma$ than the Mass of Christ for most of the time most of us have been alive.

Blessings,
Bill

Man, a True Mr Rogers Moment. Lyric, your singing the same old tired Progressive Song. This is a WAR for the American Culture. It is a war currently fought by Thought, Principles and Votes to Save the American Culture. I will NOT be Deprived of the USA' s Heritage by a few ill informed History Revisionists.

You are Correct in America being a Land of Religious Choice, Freedom to Speak and the Right to Bear Arms. We have the Right to be Outraged at Best Buy, Obama or any of Our Elected Representatives who blatantly Disregard the Constitution, the Will of the American People or who Refuse to Uphold American Values. Let's Hope & Pray (Non-PC Speak) that Common Sense Returns to America before the Cultural War escalates beyond Thought. Best Buy has seen my last dollar and I hope that others will follow suit.

And a BIG Merry Christmas to Lyric & Best Buy

Best Buy Bans Use of Merry Christmas in Advertising

Best Buy has announced they will be using "Happy Holidays" this coming Christmas shopping season, and they will not be using "Merry Christmas." UPDATE! Best Buy is blocking emails! UPDATE!
Best Buy is blocking emails! Please call their corporate office and ask for Chairman Schulze to express your displeasure at their "Anti-Christmas" policy. The number is 1-612-291-1000.

Best Buy has announced they will be using "Happy Holidays" this coming Christmas shopping season, and they will not be using "Merry Christmas."

Dawn Bryant, a spokeswoman at Best Buy Co. Inc., says their advertising will not be using the term "Merry Christmas." "We are going to continue to use the term holiday because there are several holidays throughout that time period, and we certainly need to be respectful of all of them," Bryant said. Click here for reference article.

While many other retailers have decided to begin reusing "Merry Christmas", Best Buy will not be among them. Best Buy considers the use of Merry Christmas to be disrespectful.

But while Best Buy, the largest consumer electronics company in the nation, will not be mentioning Christmas, they sure do want the shopping dollars from those who remember the Reason for the season.

Send an e-mail to Best Buy telling them of your disappointment at their decision to ban Christmas in their advertising. (You may receive an auto-reply. If so, that is ok. Don’t worry about it, your e-mail has been received.)

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Being that this is America, Best Buy has the right to promote whatever religion they wish. It is sad that in todays PC America the majority is being suppressed in order to cater to the minority. Oh wait, that is not right either. Obama has declared us a muslim nation. Therefore Christians are the minority and we should be the ones being catered to.

I was planning to go to Best Buy to look for a web cam. I'll probably still go. Unless they start kicking customers out for wearing clothing that promotes Christianity I don't see anything wrong. Sad, but not wrong.

Roger that. Me to now. I had planned on checking out Best Buy's selection on Nintendo Wii stuff for my little ones... not now. If they can't respect ALL, and not be partial to what is popular with the libs and .gov then that's another on the list I am refusing to identify with.
