I have an old Compaq Armada 1750. It has sat(off and uncharged) for about 1 1/2 years. I tried to fire it up the other day and it gave me a scren that said "Non-system disk or disk erro / replaceand strike any key when ready". What would it take to get it back up and running?

If it's been off and uncharged for that long, the BIOS may have forgotten what kind of hard drive it has. Go into the BIOS setup screen (F10 at boot-up, I think) and make sure it's set up properly.

That error means it can't find a boot device or the primary boot device has no operating system on it (like when you accidentally leave a floppy disk in the disk drive).

also, if there is a floppy disk in the drive take it out and reboot.

Could be a dead hard drive, they die out from age sometimes..

With a computer that old, it's going to be a question of what it would take to get it up and running. Would it be worth it, cost wise, to replace the drive?? If it's been sitting that long, I'd think the answer would be no..

There are plenty of cool projects for an older laptop like that, though - making your own digital picture frame is a good example..

I made a digital picture frame out of that exact model of laptop once. It was a giant pain in the ***. The model does not lend itself well to the project.

True...but with a little Blaze Orange spray paint they make awesome targets!
