I was stopped for rolling through a stop sign. As always I was very polite to the officer and he gave me a verbal warning. He told me he was looking for punks.

He asked to see my license, and when I reached for my wallet he may have seen my spare magazine or may have been informed by dispatcher that I had a LTCH or it could have been the NRA sticker on the back of my truck.

The next thing he asked me was, Are you carrying a pistol?

    I said, yes sir.

He said, you have to inform us.

Not according to the law I don't.

Yes You do You are supposed to inform us.

    ME, according to Indiana Code.....

Him, (with raised voice) Are you listening to me? I can take you to court.

    I looked at him incredulously.

He said, for running a stop sign. Do you want a ticket for running a stop sign.

    No sir.

He handed me back my ID and said you can go. Got back in his car, and drove off with out waiting for me to leave safely. He had his lights and siren on to pull over someone else before he had passed my car.

Hopefully for the police officer that offender is not an INGO member!

I am not sure but I think I won that one.

BTW I started my voice recorder immediately when pulled over and e-mailed the recording to myself for posterity.

Yea, that's a win. Especially since he wasn't there long enough to find out you are a punk. Kidding, kidding.:):

Glad you got out of the ticket and I think he did cut you a break so we are going to give him half-credit on this assignment.

I would think you should contact his chief or sheriff and let them know their officer is spreading disinformation.

    BTW I didn't say ididn't deserve a ticket just that I didn't want one.

That is why I was polite.

Did you drive to Ohio to roll the stop sign?

(Wait, was I supposed to use purple for that?)

You'll see though he want from "you must" to "you should", I bet if you kept at it long enough you could've talked him down to" I want you to"

He went from "you have to," to "you are supposed to."

Pretty much the same thing and both statements are false.

blue falcon - you did alright. I am convinced that the way to go is to have a copy of the written code so you can hand it to him. Another INGO member had a conversation with a LEO that ended nicely when he presented the papers.

We do have an extra responsibility if we carry a weapon . . .

I would say you handled it as best as the situation (and Barney) allowed.

I used to inform the officers (especially Mooresvilles finest)that I was carrying a loaded pistol and have a permit. It seemed to get me out of tickets.

But the last time a Morgan County Deputy asked if he could take the weapon while running the checks, I said yes. He came back commenting on how big the pistol was (M&P .45 FULL SIZE). ???

No harm no foul, but that was a first in over 20 years.....

I was told just the other day by a deputy (Im not sure where he was from) during a class (that I will not name because I don't want the guys running the class to get any sh*t over it) that if I exercised my right to remain silent I would have my LTCH taken away.
    Discussion went like this:
Instructor 1: (to class) " do you have to inform an officer if you are carrying in Indiana?"
    me: "No"
Instructor 1: "Do you have to inform an officer if he asks if you have weapons on you?"
    me: "No"
    Instructor 1: "Yes you do"
me: "I have my right to remain silent and don't have to say anything"
instructor 2: "you have that right but you'll be arrested and lose your permit"
...I did not push the issue because the class was running long and I already had a headache from the asinine questions coming from some in the group.
I like the response Ive seen on here a few times..."There is nothign illegal in the car."

I am correct about this, yes? Does it make a difference if the officer specifically asks you about weapons? Especially if they are only investigating you for a moving violation (traffic stop)...

I used to believe that I would inform, then I heard about so many citizens having their weapons taken away. That is when I decided I would not inform.

The problem with carrying the IC is that the law is silent on OC/CC and need to inform. It is really difficult to show someone something that isn't there.
