My Conseco Fieldhouse experience.

...or they changed their policy since April '07. My GF and I
watched a hockey game at Conseco last spring and I didn't
see any wands. It suprised me that they wanted to look in
my GF's purse, but didn't give me a second glance. Needless
to say my SS Commander ejoyed the game as much as I did.
Maybe it's because we're old folks (mid 50ish), and the "crowd"
is probably a little different than a Pacers game.

All of this . . . and airport "security" for that matter ... is about making the sheep feel good about themselves.

They've had metal detectors at K.I. for years. I beep every time I go through them, no matter what. These days, I have everything out of my pockets (including wallet and spare change) to put in the basket since I'm going to have to do it anyway.

They also bag check. They have wands, too, but I've never seen them use them.

Really depends on the event. The amount and type of security is based on who the event is for. Same at LOS/RCA. Sometimes you will get just patted down other times you may get the rubber glove? Most Pro sports you will get the glove. High school or college events you may get the wave.

When we were on our way back from Iraq we stopped in Germany. The plane was civilian airline but a bunch of Marines were the only ones on the plane. They let us into the main part of the airport to use the internet and phones and get something to eat. As we came back to board the plane they made us take off our boots (because the first guy's dog tag in his left boot set off the metal detector. They then proceeded to notice that all of us had pocket knives, dog tags, and cleaning rods on our person. They young lady working security wasn't quite sure what to do with all 200 of us. I remember her sayin "You can mail it home to yourself, i guess."

Then an old Gunnery Sgt got involved:
"Ma'am, on that plane I have a machine gun under my seat, a 12 inch Ka-bar fighting knife and an MRE with a heater that I could easily make a small incendiary device out of. I'm going to walk past you now and get on that plane and go home to my family, you do whatever you have to do."

Needless to say we all boarded the plane with our knives and everything else.

Similar experience myself... never seen a wand there though... they'll just say "have any weapons?" "no", or they've never said anything to me... but please, don't wear a hat... if you wear a hat they want you to take it off and ask you 30 questions... like i might be hiding something under my hat.

Oh, I also had a hat on. It stayed on my head the whole time. The kid was so surprised and excited about the length of the blade that he didn't notice anything else.

Good thing they don't ask if people have any "firearms". That would be different.
