![]() ![]() | HD scenario, what to do: Your door gets kicked down during the middle of the night. You grab your HD weapon...what do you do? Do you run out guns ablazin shooting up whatever you see? Do you call out for identification first? Do you flip your tac light on and off to identify? Warn the intruder of impending gunfire? Take a defensive position, and wait to ambush them? Is kicking down the door enough of a threat to warrant deadly force? What if the intruders claim they are police? I know its a far fetched scenario, but I was reading about some thieves that would use the door kick down to enter a residence and its a bit different than the scenarios i prepare for where a theif is trying to be covert and coming through a window, or a picked door...thus setting off an alarm or dog, or whatever alert system you use. How much proof do you need to identify true law enforcement? afterall , anyone can buy a shiny badge and or yell out that they are police...it'd be nice to have a string of threads that deal with all kinds of hypotheticals, whether it be at home, or in public. edit: just a reminder that this situation is becoming more of a reality... | Freedom Loving Citizen ![]() | I don't believe I'll divulge my tactics on here, but if the police decide that they must serve a search warrant by kicking in my door instead of peacefully knocking and waiting for an answer, then they must be willing to accept any consequence they bring upon themselves that could be waiting on the other side of the door. As I know there wouldn't be any warranted reason for forcefully entry by police, I'd not be expecting the intruder(s) to be anyone who respects my domain, therefore would do all and anything I could to protect it.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I'll be taking up a defensive position with my .357 revolver to cover my wife while she takes the .357 carbine and moves to barricade with the boy and call 9/11. I'll remain where I'm at and shoot anyone who shows up in the hallway. She'll shoot anyone who appears in the boy's doorway until I tell her it's clear, or she sees a uniformed officer. Said officer had best be announcing himself properly. There is no reason for the cops to be doing a no knock raid on my house. If they make a mistake and pick the wrong house, simply shouting police won't be sufficient. Under the stress of the moment, and given the space and layout limitations of our house, it's highly unlikely I'd have time to hear them. I'd just have to take my chances with a jury. No knock raids are heavily overused nowadays, and hideously dangerous for the officers and occupants. Cops need to start being cops again, and not para-military forces, IMHO. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | It's not a far fetched scenario at all. Home invasions are increasing in almost every area of the country. Criminals (including some bounty hunters who also happen to be criminals) have and will continue to claim to be police officers when they invade a home. Some criminals will actually be police and just haven't been caught yet.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Allowing the invaders through the breech is not the way to defend a castle according to history. That being said, I would use whatever moments I had to get the biggest bore pointed from a defensive position and be sure that all my loved ones are behind me. That being said, people who kick in doors do not have any right to feel that shooting is off limits until they make it over the threshold of the home. Nope. At the same time, you had better damn well be right if you send a round through a door. That is far harder to explain in court. There are plenty of cases with this exact example and with many endings. I am with Rhino though, this is not uncommon and if the ecomony goes bad - it will become far more common. Oh, and so long as I have ID'd that all of my family is behind me (easily done), then all in front of me should not be there...

| Master ![]() | My bedroom is at the opposite end of the house so if they are in my sights they are well in the house. If there isn't positive proof in my mind that they are LEOs (obvious SWAT looking outfits with it printed on them or something along that line) there is going to be a hail of .45 or .40 JHPs flying at them.

![]() ![]() | My apartment is small and my bedroom has two entrances so I don't really have a place to barricade myself. I sleep with the door closed so I would grab the Surefire and Glock from the nightstand and back myself into the corner covering the door. Blind them with the light and yell that I'm armed until they hit the ground or I drop them. |
