| Master ![]() | Recommend self-defense lawyers here. I tried to search and saw no other serious thread where we can list lawyers to defend us in case of a defensive shooting incident. I would think that it would be better to find one and perhaps engage one local to your area BEFORE the need arises. So, if anyone knows a good online source that lists lawyers for this, OR has their own personal recommendations, please post them here. This also might be a good opportunity for another site relationship similar to dealers, whereas lawyers can advertise or generally make themselves known. |

![]() | You may be able to identify an attorney who you would want to have defend you if you were involved in a self defense shooting but I am not sure what you mean by "engage." You aren't going to hire an attorney unitl the need actually arises. Nonetheless, if you want to shop around for criminal defense attorneys, your local bar association can probably proivde a list of criminal defense attorneys in you area. The yellow pages also has this type of information. I often read posts that recommend finding a criminal defense attorney who "specializes in self defense issues" or who "specializes in gun law." I think these attorney are few and far between, if they exist at all. An attorney has to bring in enough work to keep himself or herself busy all the time. There simply is not enough firearms and self defense related criminal work in most geographic areas, including the Indy metro area, to keep even one attorney busy all the time, let alone several. Thus, you may find a criminal defense attorney who is a firearms enthusiast and you are likely to find one who has represented persons accused of gun related offenses, but you are unlikely to find one who works exclusively in this area or who "specializes" in this area. Also, there are many criminal defense attorneys who have defended people chanrged with assual, attempted murder and murder, which are the criminal charges you are likely to face if you shoot someone. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | I get your point, but in an adversarial judicial system lke we have, there is never just one story. Even if there are no other witnesses, the prosecuting attorney is still the voice of the "victim." It's critical that you identify yourself as the victim to responding officers since the dead guy laying in a puddle of blood at your feet is doing a hell of a victim impersonation. You may want to check out this organization: Network members don't face the legal system alone!
