![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | settle this for me please a co-worker and I where talking and the subject of self defense came up. he asked what would I do if someone walked up to me and stuck a gun to my chest. I said my first reaction would be to grab his gun and divert the muzzle away from my body...he cut me off and said "why would you divert the muzzle?" "all you have to do is grab the the gun with a firm grip which will disable to slide"...umm ok I told him you may be able to grab the gun with enough force to disable the action but he still has that first shot and once you grab the gun his first reaction will be to pull the trigger and if the muzzle is pointed at you guess what..you just caught a round. he is insisting that the gun will not fire if the slide is "locked"...Im pretty sure this is not true,"locking" the slide has nothing to do with the round that is already chambered and ready to go. am I wrong? I mean all that would happen would be an FTE..correct? I then asked what if the person assualting you has a revolver? he said "same deal..grab he gun with a firm grip arond the cylinder..if the cylinder cant turn it will not fire" now I know that is BS..if the hammer is already back she's ready to rock. he keeps insisting that its true....whos correct here? Ill let him see the replys. |

You are correct, if the BG has one in the chamber, that round is going straight to your chest, nothing will stop it, unless you stop the hammer. Your best bet is divert the muzzle. This is simple common sense, lets do some math ppl. round in chamber + firing pin striking primer = firearm discharge Of course you can always count on the hand of god coming in and spoiling the primer. However I wouldn't count on that one. Maybe you should tell your coworker guns don't work like they do in the movies. Guns don't need to have the slide pulled back manually after walking around every corner. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Not 100% sure on the auto. But both of you are correct on the revolver. Ill explain. If the hammer is cocked you would be correct and it will fire if the trigger is pulled(unless you get your hand in between the hammer and pin).If it is not cocked how ever, stopping the cylinder from turning will stop the weapon from firing. The hammer must come back and cylinder rotate for the trigger to "set". I would how ever not want to bet my life that I could keep the cylinder from turning. I am also not sure if stopping the cylinder would have the same effect on a "hammerless" revolver. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The only thing about a revolver that might be possible is with a double action revolver. The trigger does turn the cylinder. It would make it difficult to pull the trigger but probably not impossible. I don't know. I haven't tried it and don't plan to. What I am wondering is what your friend is planning on doing after he grabs the bad guy's gun. Is he just going to hold on till the BG decides to leave him alone? I know. when you go back to work tell him all he has to do is stick his pinky finger the muzzle. That will make the gun unable to fire. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | i believe that on some autos, such as the 1911, if the slide is pushed all the way back it prevents the hammer from hitting the firing pin. however, with all the striker fired pistols i would hedge the bet and divert the muzzle. if you were ever in a situation like that with an auto and you wanted to be adventurous, i would suggest being sure to get the slide far enough back to eject the life round so the chamber is empty. just make sure the slide doesnt come back into battery...cause THEN you will have a new throat...through your chest. |

is a good question tho..what would you do after that? seriously what could you do? say the BG walks up to you from behind and and does something to get your attention..you turn around and before you can react he has a gun point blank to your chest. my reaction as stated above would be to grab the gun and divert the muzzle..then I would strike him with my free hand and hopefully this will throw him off enough to either loosen his grip on his weapon allowing me full control and I could use his own weapon to restrain or drop him or striking him gives me enough to time to let loose of my grip on his weapon and draw my own to either restrain him or shoot him which ever needs to be done to make sure I go home but being that he would still have his weapon Im gonna say the later would happen. of course this all "day dreaming' and one really knows what the reactions would be in this sort of situation...but still its always good to have an idea what you could/would do if confronted like this. | |
