![]() ![]() | is there a legal way to carry a gun into canada ?? i am going to go to canada for a fishing trip. and was wondering if there is a special permitte i could apply for before i go. we are staying in a tent way out in the middle of nowhere and i just dont get along with grizzly bears. and i was thinking it would be nice to take along a 454 or somthing. but dont know if there is a way to do so. or if it is just out of the question. thanks

Nevertheless, a step back in the right direction. Let's just hope we aren't waltzed in the wrong direction any time soon ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I don't think you would catch much greif taking a rifle or shotgun. Pistol, mace and radar detectors are pretty much out of the question. What I typically do when going into known bear country is take my mother-law. I know I can out run her.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Not sure how this would play out: But if you're taking a shotgun/rifle for hunting purposes, be sure that what it is you intend to hunt is in season. I'd suspect that the border guards MIGHT get a little suspicious if you're trying to enter the country with several shotguns for goose hunting and it ain't goose hunting season. Same maybe with rifles aimed for bear/moose/caribou and they're not in season (or can't provide proof of hunting tags, etc) Read up and C Y A. -J-

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I did read somewhere in there (I think on the RCMP site - link to firearms classification definitions) that you could claim that the firearm is for protection from wildlife. We have black bears where we fish, though they seldom get near enough to see. They were becoming more prevalent after the No. Ontario hunting reg changes back in '04, so I may look into this next time up.

The form looks pretty basic, and I believe it said it was $25, and remember don't sign it till you get there, as the MP needs to see you sign.
