![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Has it been determined whether or not Gates ID helped clarify that it was his house? As I understand it he was renting so it's possible his ID didnt have the same address or even had an address. Also, there was a report of two men. Gates initial reaction to the police would seem suspicious while they are trying to sort things out and only went south from there on, especially if his ID didn't clear it up. Whatever the case, our President only made things worse for race relations after stating he didn't have all the facts. Good job Barry! |

I have read the report. I'm sure it was pretty much accurate. I'm sure he left out the parts about his own demenor, or comments, or whatever. Unless I missed it, he left out exactly how I he got into the house and then later talks about exiting the house... so clearly, he didn't include everything that was said. But yes. If you are trying to say that every single police report ever filed was 100% accurate and true, then there is nothing I can say to sway your opinion. This is absolutely not true. Furthermore, if you are saying that there has never been a cop who abused his or her power, then I give up. All I'm saying is that to all of you who are saying "the cop was 100% right"... there is no possible way you could KNOW that (not even by reading the police report). To all of those you are saying "the cop was 100% wrong." this is no possible way you could KNOW that. The truth is probably in the middle somewhere. Last edited by bigus_D; 07-28-2009 at 07:01. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The race issue, media coverage, and Obama's remarks have really clouded this whole issue. Gates should never have been arrested because his racial profiling rant is protected speech. When you have asinine laws such as Disrupting the Public and Disturbing the Peace, you just set up your rights to be walked all over by the police. They are required to enforce the laws, even though the laws conflict with your constitutional rights. Requiring a handgun license is the same way. It is why so many people choose not to open carry, because the police have to enforce the law, which is to make sure you have a license when they see your handgun (even though technically they should think you are breaking the law). This just leads to further stepping on our rights. It is the fault of the police when it doesn't stop at just checking the license, it is the fault of the law that our rights are already infringed. If we didn't have to have a license, open carry would happen more often. I believe there would be a large drop in crime. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | You think they are asinine until some idiot starts running all around your neighborhood yelling and screaming all night... I think what has clouded the issue is the fact that everytime someone yells "racist cop," everyone instantly believes the cop was/is at fault. HE DIDN'T ARREST HIM FOR SPEAKING HIS MIND, HE ARRESTED HIM FOR YELLING AND SCREAMING AND DISRUPTING THE PUBLIC. Quote:
