I will not carry a gun until I have put three to five hundred rounds Thur it. most any gun I buy new I will at least go and put two hundred rounds Thur it to make sure it will function without fault.

![]() | Amazing, I wont carry a gun until I have fired at least 100-200 rounds through and generally more. Unfortunately right now with the cost of ammo it is closer to the 100 round mark but still I want to know that it goes bang if I need it. Why carry a gun that you have never shot. makes NO sense. Sounds like an uneducated person trying to get themselves killed and give responsible gun carriers a bad reputation. Can you imagine if this person had to use that weapon. That could be catastrophic |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I'm pretty rough with any pistol I intend to carry, from a function standpoint. I figure if I can put 500 issue-free rounds (without cleaning) through my intended carry gun, and practice a couple of times a week, I'm good to go. By the same token, some folks have never checked to insure that the jack in their vehicle works.... have you ? ![]() Yes, my vehicle's jack works.... and the spare is checked monthly..... ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Sometimes certain pistols need to be "worked in." The first couple hundred rounds may result in a few stovepipes due to springs being loosened up. It would be foolish to not practice with a weapon you intend to use to save your life someday.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | There isn't just the function that you have to think about, there is also the variance between the POA and POI. Not every set of sights lines up the same, and if you don't know what the score is on that gun then you can't take the shot. If you haven't felt the recoil before then how do you know what the fallow up shot is going to do? I had a "fun day" out at the range about a week ago, some buddies and I went and brought a bunch of stuff. When I went back to the range with my carry gun the other day, my grouping went to hell, because I had not been working with my CCW, I was off playing with every thing under the sun and forgot to practice. You guys are talking about test firing a gun you are going to carry, but are you remembering to fire the carry ammo? If I am going to carry a gun I feel the need to fire at least 400 solid reliable rounds. That doesn't just mean "Problem Free" that means that the rounds go in the same place and the gun feels the same with every shot. I check that the mags drop free and slide in smooth. I also fire at least 20 with the carry ammo, so I know how it feels and where it goes. And then I do the same thing again every few months, just to be sure. I wish I could afford to fire every gun until it jammed, I like knowing how many round I can run through it before it gets choked up. |
