| There isn't just the function that you have to think about, there is also the variance between the POA and POI. Not every set of sights lines up the same, and if you don't know what the score is on that gun then you can't take the shot. If you haven't felt the recoil before then how do you know what the fallow up shot is going to do? I had a "fun day" out at the range about a week ago, some buddies and I went and brought a bunch of stuff. When I went back to the range with my carry gun the other day, my grouping went to hell, because I had not been working with my CCW, I was off playing with every thing under the sun and forgot to practice.
You guys are talking about test firing a gun you are going to carry, but are you remembering to fire the carry ammo? If I am going to carry a gun I feel the need to fire at least 400 solid reliable rounds. That doesn't just mean "Problem Free" that means that the rounds go in the same place and the gun feels the same with every shot. I check that the mags drop free and slide in smooth. I also fire at least 20 with the carry ammo, so I know how it feels and where it goes. And then I do the same thing again every few months, just to be sure.
I wish I could afford to fire every gun until it jammed, I like knowing how many round I can run through it before it gets choked up. |
