Firearms in the city?

I live in the city limits and am having trouble with a dog. This dog is tearing up property, growls at people and finally almost attacked a kid on way home from the school buss. My question is this, is it legal to discharge a firearm in the city. I have been looking to try and find a city code but i am unable to find anything.

I'd rather the dog just go away but at this point its only a matter or time before it hurts a kid or a person. It has mauled many cats in my area as neighbors have informed me.

So, any idea where i can find city codes for TH regarding shooting this dog next time it is on my property? Or does anyone have any other ideas on how to take care of this problem.

This brings me to another question, if discharging a firearm is illegal in city limits what good is our right to self defense?

Better report the dog to animal control before any thought goes into anything else.
IANAL but shooting it because it is on your property is a no no and will get you a free ride downtown, now if it is a situation that involves you fearing for your life/safety or anothers, you better make darn sure of what you do because of your stated actions that are now part of the internet.

What's that device that Dave Gunn on Bob & Tom was discussing? Some sort of sonic weapon? His mother-in-law is some kind of dog trainer and he used it on a dog in Broad Ripple.

1. Check your town/city ordinances.
2. Understand that shooting a dog may be prosecuted under: Theft, Cruelty to an Animal, Criminal Mischief, or Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon.

It's not worth the aggravation and attorney fees. Call animal control and make a report.

I'd like to know what the laws are on shooting a dog showing signs of aggression in the city...I've often wondered what legal rights and what repercussions there would be.

A lot of cities have ordinances about firearms being discharged. So call Animal control or the cops and let them deal with it. Personally I wouldn't put myslef into an unpleasant situation.

That is what i am also trying to find out. Its defiantly aggressive and a danger to the kid that just barely out ran him from the buss stop. I guess I will give animal control a call

Self-defense would be applicable.

Be advised that the Tippecanoe County Prosecuting Attorney has prosecuted cases involving "dog shooters" in the past (Cruelty to an Animal).

Call critter control. At very least you will be making a paper trail in case you have to act in self-defense.

Don't make me tell you the "Kirk almost shoots a Rottie" self-defense story.
