LTCH, and "The Gym" advice needed.

Here's the Scenerio.

You've been at work all day. You are wearing your belt, with gun, spare magazine, flash light, pocket knife, etc etc etc. You drive over to "The Gym" (Think Cardinal Fitness type place) to work out for an hour before heading home.

How do you change into your workout gear without flashing your firearm to half the locker room? Do you worry about it? How about when you are done working out and are changing back into your street clothes.

I'm a firm believer in "concealed" means "concealed". I understand there's nothing Legally preventing me from very openly strapping my gun on my hip. That said, I would rather not show the world I'm carrying. I would like to avoid triggering mass hysteria in the locker room if at all possible. I know most people aren't observant enough to notice something like that, but why take the risk. I also know most people aren't going to go off the hook like a certain gas station attendant. Until that "most" people is "all" people I'd like to avoid the situation if at all possible.

So let's hear it. How do YOU change at the gym without drama?

I would be more worried about someone stealing it from your locker ,if you were going to leave it in there. I think it would be best to leave it in a lock box in your car.

I'd either run home to disarm and then go to the gym or keep it in a safe in the car.

Driving unarmed to the gym, and unarmed home isn't something I'm willing to do.

I trust the lockers more than I trust the windows in my car, and glove box. to prevent unauthorized access.

That said, I guess a safe in the car is going to be a necessity.

Keep it by your "junk" while you are changing. If somebody sees it then you have more to worry about then just your gun.

Agreed. If someone sees it, they are obviously not following the unwritten rule book. You never make unnecessary eye contact and/or look in someone else's direction.

I think I'd bring my own lock for my gym locker regardless, but if I decided to lock it in the car, either an unobtrusive locked case/safe somewhere in the passenger compartment or the trunk would be my choice. There are those black unmarked cases that cable lock around a solid frame piece (I forget what they're called or who makes them, but I've seen them at Sportsman's Warehouse) or Brinks makes a punch-button combination lockbox you could bolt in as well.

If I decided to carry the whole time, I think I'd find an area where I was pretty much in a corner and could only be viewed from one side, then keep my gun side toward the corner. Most folks seeing you changing (breaking the man laws or not) will assume you're a cop and pay no mind, but I am sure someone would bring their young son to the gym and you'll eventually get, "Hay Mister? Are you a policeman?"

Prime teaching opportunity, that. "Nope, but I'm still one of the good guys."

Blessings,
B

Get a gym bag. While in the car at the gym's parking lot put the gun into said bag. take the bag with you to th gym and put it in the locker.
