That is a great article. And I especially liked how it didn't seem to be too anti-gun. It had its moments, sure, but it also made a very good effort to see it from "our" side, too. Here are some snippets I enjoyed:

The Jensens are part of a fledgling movement to make a firearm as common an accessory as an iPod. Called "open carry" by its supporters, the movement has attracted grandparents, graduate students and lifelong gun enthusiasts like the Jensens.

So we need to help make people more comfortable with it...

"We've changed over the last 200 years from the days of the wild, wild West," [Police Chief John] Greiner said. "Most people don't openly carry. . . . If [people] truly want to open carry, they ought to expect they'll be challenged more until people become comfortable with it."

In California, people can openly carry only unloaded guns.

And I love this almost-closing statement. This was in reference to an OC dinner.

Glancing around the restaurant, as armed families like the Jensens dined with men in cowboy hats and professionals like himself, Thompson smiled.

"I love this," he said. "I want people to be aware that crazy people are not the only ones with guns. Normal people carry them."

It's another media bias. They want to make gun owners look like cowboys. It makes the reader think "Wild West", which ranks right up there with phrases like "gun toting" and "packing heat".

I notice in the thumbnails on pages 2 and 3, though, that opencarry.org is prominently displayed on the guy's holster. That's awesome!

Well what really got me a little hot under the collar was the police chief who told the story about how open carry makes his life harder and then relates that a nutball with a shotgun who opened fire on officers was doing an open carry. That chief was associated each of us who lawfully carry to that nutball and giving the anti-gunners a wonderful story to cling to. . . and you know they will cling to that story and ignore the rest of this article! The chief totally screwed us over with that, and he obviously did it on purpose to support his anti-gun politics because he claimed to tell the story over and over again.

Sorry chief, I take offense to being associated to criminal activity. Just because I own the same type of gun as a madman does not mean I am a criminal, nor should I be associated with criminals because I lawfully own guns. I wonder if his wife is a $2 whore who works the street corners? She has a vagina so she is equipped to do the job.

Well I checked the forum rules and didn't see anything that said I couldn't do the same thing with the chief's wife that he did with us. I also checked the word WHORE to see if it was censored and it is not, but I supposed I could have used the word PROSTITUTE or the term LADY OF THE EVENING. I also decided to use the word VAGINA instead of a slang term.

Seems to me that the chief should not take any offense to what I wrote. Perhaps his will will have a chat with him if she reads this and have him speak a bit more carefully when he makes rash associations?


But the sad thing is that we pro-gunners are so happy to see a seemingly balance article that we simply overlook some of the most incredible attacks on our character or we simply dismiss those. The fact is that the chief's story was wrongly associated to us and that the anti-gun crowd will use isolated stories like that against us.
