![]() | 2 Muncie men arrested for armed robbery A follow-up story to the robbery a couple weeks ago here at BSU. Good to see the BSU and Muncie PD's working together effectively on this one. ![]() Ball State Daily News - 2 Muncie residents arrested in connection with Scheumann Stadium armed robbery 2 Muncie residents arrested in connection with Scheumann Stadium armed robbery By Sarah Boswell and Andrea Zeek Published: Thursday, October 29, 2009 Updated: Thursday, October 29, 2009 Muncie resident Camron Charles Taylor, 21, is being held at the Delaware County Jail on preliminary charges in connection with an Oct. 12 armed robbery near Scheumann Stadium. During the crime, two Ball State University students were robbed at gun point in the overflow lot on the west side of Tillotson Avenue near the stadium. One student was robbed of her purse, but neither student was injured, according to a campuswide Public Safety notice e-mailed to students that day. Director of Public Safety Gene Burton said the arrest was a cooperative effort between Muncie and Ball State police. “[The arrest] was just some good, old fashioned police work,” he said. Burton said University Police received a couple leads from a police call and used that information, with the help of the Muncie Police Department, to identify Taylor from surveillance photographs. Ball State Uniform Division identified the suspected criminal’s vehicle, a Lincoln Towncar, and notified the Detective Division and Muncie Police, he said. Bob Fey, associate director of Public Safety, said Muncie police officers arrested Taylor on Tuesday while serving him outstanding warrants. Joshua A. Broxson, 25, was also arrested in connection with the Oct. 12 robbery, and a third person “has been named and is being sought for questioning,” Public Safety said in a statement. Both Taylor and Broxson reside at 404 S. Celia Street in Muncie. Fey said the next step is up to the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office. “The case will be resolved once [the third person] is taken into custody,” he said. Burton said as long as students take proper precaution, they should still be as safe on campus as they ever were. After interviewing Taylor and Broxson, he said police think the suspects’ original intent was to rob student cars, not to approach students in the lot. “This was an isolated event,” Burton said. “It’s not one that occurs with any frequency on campus. It was more a crime of opportunity than it was a pre-planned event.” UPD is still investigating the Oct. 16 attempted assault on a student near Woodworth and DeHority halls, he said. |
