Are you really that scared?

You know, I had an odd OC experience in a taco bell once that this tread title reminds me of. I was waiting in line and a stranger in front of me, a woman struck up small talk. It was going well untill she noticed my carry piece it then went some thing like this:

Girl: Whats with the gun?

Me: Well, I choose to carry it just as you seem to carry that cell phone you were texting on and i just slipped it on before i left the house and sense its so late i didn't think anyone would be here so i didnt tuck it in.

Girl: Well, I have my cell phone out incase a crazy gun with a gun tries to hurt me so i can call the police.

Me: Well, i carry this gun so i can stop the crazy guy with a gun that is trying to hurt you this second while we wait for the police to take a few minutes to get here.

Girl: Do you carry it because you are scared? I am also a little un easy being here at 2am hints why my cell phone is out.

Me: I have it not because I am scared but because I like to have options. I hope to never use it but if I have to, I have the option. Where as your only option is to wait for the police. When seconds count cops are minutes away.

Girl: Well, thank you. You really had some great points and maybe I will look into a gun, times are getting crazy.

By this time she got her food and left. As i moved up to the counter to finally pick up my food, i thought, wow I actually may of gotten though to a college aged girl that not all gun owners are bad guys. I assume she went to ISU as she had an ISU shirt on. Oh well, just thought I would share as it sparked a rather good memory.

end of conversation...guess she didnt want to talk to me any more....dont know why Im a pretty friendly feller.

That's pretty cool man, I only hope I can get through to someone like that.

I'd be packing at that KFC/taco bell too. Thats right down the street from my buddies house. Some of his neighbors are less than desirable.

Good question. I know that her shirt would have made her print so bad, the clerk probably would have noticed when she walked in; and she constantly had one hand on her son's shoulder, so unless she was CCing in a way that the firearm was easily accessible (i.e. bootstrap, purse, or inside the top-back of her son's shirt), i doubt that she had a firearm on her.

Also, though it may sometimes be a false sense of securty, CCing usually calms you down in a hostile environment, because you have the open option to defend yourself and not be a victim.

I wish there were more OC'ers like you out there. Armed with the knowledge and charisma to deliver the message we all send when we OC or CC in public.

You ain't kidding. It's right at the edge of Fall Creek Place, which is a relatively nice neighborhood, but then you have all the gangsters and hoodlum kids that walk through and whatnot.
