My Conversation with a Kinkos Sheep

I had some free time today, so I took my recently acquired lifetime permit and headed to FedEx-Kinkos to get some copies made. (thanks again for those on here who suggested such an idea)

I was waiting in line to be helped when "Molly" asked if I needed any help. I explained that I was needing to have something copied, and asked if there would be any problem copying something FROM pink paper TO pink paper. She said "yeah,. . . we can't do that. . ." I asked "why? because of the pink paper?" and she replied "no, because its a *whisper* HANDGUN PERMIT *whisper* right?

I said "yes, its a handgun permit, but I believe its totally acceptable as long as its done on the same pink 20lb. paper." She asked if I would wait while she called the Indiana State Police firearms desk, just to verify. I said "no problem" and waited patiently. She was having some trouble finding the number online, and her supervisor walked by and asked what she was looking for. When she explained, the supervisor quickly said "yeah that's OK, just make sure its on the same pink paper".

Molly apologized and said that she was not aware of the policy. She then came back over and helped me find the right paper and the right settings on the copier. She said "yeah I laminate a gun permit almost every day I work. . . I think its scary knowing there are lots of people out there carrying guns!" I explained that "its not the permit holders you need to be scared of, its the thugs carrying guns WITHOUT a permit." I then described the process that we go thru and the checks that are required before one is issued. She admitted that she didn't know much about guns or the laws surrounding them. She then went into telling me about how dangerous the city can be and that maybe its not such a crazy idea after all.

Thirty minutes later (she was a perfectionist) she handed me a small stack of laminated permits, all with the edges cut perfectly and looking nice and neat. When she rang me up, my total bill was only $2.39. I couldn't believe it. I gave her a $10 and told her to keep the change for helping me out.

I'm always amazed at how just a quick education can make people think twice about their held views. Hopefully Molly's perception of "gun-nuts" is a bit different now.

BTW, if anyone needs their permit copied/laminated then FedEx Kinkos on US31/Stop12 is your place!

I'm always amazed at how ignorant some people can be, but at the same time, they are just not informed. Good job on clearing up her misconceptions.

I wonder if she realized that since you were getting copies of your permit, that you had a gun within 2 feet of her. And also that it didn't jump out and shoot her all on it's own.

I will have to remember this when I apply for, and receive, my lifetime permit.

Yeah I left that part out! ---->"HAVING A PERMIT IS COOL! WANNA SEE MY GUN!"

Molly was a very nice girl and we had a nice conversation. She seemed to be your typical "fuzzy feelings" liberal, as she was talking about her "passion" for conservation and recycling and how much she hated litter-bugs.

"The other day I was open-carrying my Desert Eagle .50 in a tactical Fobus holster. Some jerk shot off his mouth and said "hey are you a cop?"

So I pistol-whipped him."
