Got a reply from NatCity.

Initially, I got the standard reply email, "sorry you experienced poor customer service....". Later, the manager of the branch in question called me personally. We talked for about 20 minutes or so. He said that the metal detectors are there to stay, but that we should be able to work something out. While I couldn't get him to go on the record & say out right that we could carry into the bank, he did say that he'd like to meet w/ me personally. He further said that a solution might be to meet w/ the manager of whatever branch I use the most and if I end up going to another branch, that has detectors, call my branch & have that manager call ahead to the other branch & they "should be able to accomodate" me. Now, I am not sure if that is b/c I have a badge, but I tried to make the case that I had a carry permit since I was 18, & that the training I've gotten in the accademy & since, was no more rigorous than what I had before & that a legally armed citizen posses no threat to anyone but a "bad guy". I also pointed out that individuals w/ carry permits are the most law abiding members of society, even more than LEO's, and should be afforded the opportunity to defend themselves inside & outside of the bank.
He made some references to some folks he had dealings w/ in the past who were visibly armed & that was very uncomfortable to him & the staff (I guess it was an unpleasant discussion @ the time). I offered to do a little class for him & anyone @ the bank, who wanted to become more knowledgable & comfortable w/ guns. I told him that more often than not, the reason for the fear was ignorance, or lack of knowledge or familiarity & I would be happy to help them out.
I'm awaiting his call back.

A guy I know just tells them it's part of his colostomy bag and offers to show them. Any comments about metal or suspicious bulges quickly get tabled.

Minuteman, if there is anything I can do to help with the class for your bank, please let me know. I don't currently have this issue with my bank, but I love your suggestion of teaching them better and removing fear by education.

This also has the possibility (albeit exceptionally remote) of the bank actually allowing it's tellers who have LTCs to carry on premises and on duty. This would be a huge, HUGE slam on the antis.

Some of the managers of small banks in smaller towns in Indiana would laugh at the idea of keeping armed citizens away from their premises. The bank in Cayuga routinely does loans for people to buy guns (usually at Darrel's across the street) and vaults.

That is the god damn dumbest bank policy I've seen since they decided to start charging to talk to a teller.
I've had an "Electric Orange" INGDirect checking account since they came out. My account has always been that way. Did they previously offer a different type of account?

I keep multiple bank accounts with multiple banks, but keep most of my money in online deposit accounts to get the better interest rates. I do keep checks handy (and money in the accounts) for rare times when I want to write a paper check. ING doesn't serve well as an only bank, but works pretty well for storing money.

If a bank ever denied me entry because I was carrying a gun, or because I couldn't go through a metal detector, I think I'd do just as Bill of Rights suggested - find out if it was just one jerk making life tough, and if it is corporate policy close all my accounts as quickly as I could transfer them.

This is as I suspected, and the part that none of the antis (or )will ever believe. Police officers, by virtue of pinning on that badge, attain the same mastery over firearms that Yoda did over the Force, in their minds. What? You say private citizens have a lower rate of shooting innocents AND of "wild shots"? No, that can't be true, that's just the line the NRA tells you to think."

While you addressed the rigor of your academy (and subsequent) training, minuteman, would you be willing to touch on the frequency of that subsequent training? That is, how often do you train in weapon retention, tactics, and shooting skill (and any other that you consider relevant to my question), for your police job?

Blessings,
B
