Question Regulations On Carrying in Mocormicks.

I'm going to Mocormicks Creek (not sure on the spelling) this weekend. Does anybody know what the regulations is on Carrying a gun or a site I can go to that gives me the rules. I'm still trying to learn where I can carry and where not to carry. Thanks

As of last year it is legal to carry in a State Park in Indiana. There should be a thread on here somewhere with more information and I know that some parks may still have signs or information saying that you cannot. They are just outdated, as the change was only last year. Anyway, you should be good to go!

Yes, the head of DNR removed the administrative regulation that prohibited park patrons from carrying their weapons...concealed or open. If you open carry, be prepared to handle scrutiny...justified or not.

*note, it was never "illegal", just a DNR rule* That's probably a nit that I'm picking, but we'd all be well to know the difference between the two as it may apply to other situations.

This is what I ended up finding on the site. Now just to verify it is saying I can carry as long as I'm legal.

PARK RULES

McCormick's Creek State Park is for the public - please have respect for it. All visitors are expected to observe the following rules, which are designed to preserve a primitive landscape in its natural condition for the use and enjoyment of the people.
  • Do not injure or damage any structure, rock, tree, flower, bird or wild animal within the Park. Do NOT gather limbs, brush or trees (either dead or alive) for firewood! They MUST be allowed to remain to rebuild the natural humus.
  • Any firearm (except validly licensed handguns), BB gun, air gun, CO2 gun, bow and arrow, or spear gun in possession in a state park must be unloaded or un-locked and stored in a case or locked within a vehicle except when participating in an activity authorized by written permit.

I recommend you get Brian Ciyou's book "Indiana Handgun Law" second edition and look it up. This is an excellent concise book that explains all the pertinent laws, including the changes made to carry in state parks. In the absence of a "IHL" website here is a link to our Gen Assembly and their listing of gun laws...
