![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | .22LR suppressor on my AR It's recently been brought to my attention that my AR is already threaded with the correct thread size to mount my .22LR suppressor. Can anyone confirm that (with a .22 conversion kit, of course) A) I can shoot .22LR through a .223/5.56 barrel with a .22LR suppressor attached and B) that it really is likely to be threaded correctly for my suppressor (1/2x28)? To re-iterate, I know you can't shoot .223 through my suppressor. That wasn't my question. If you were about to say that, please go back and re-read from the beginning. Also, the flash suppressor that is currently mounted to the end of my AR appears to be on there pretty tight. It doesn't appear to be pinned or welded, but I can't get it loosened. It has a washer of some sort behind it. Is it possible that it's been Loc-Tite'd on, and if so, what's the best way to remove it without damaging either the barrel or the flash suppressor?

As for converting .223 to .22LR, I can't see why not, people do it all the time to save on ammo costs when they're just plinking. Chamber insert/supplement is probably the least hassle, but accuracy is going to drop through the floor.... offset firing pin, going from centerfire to rimfire, barrel diameter differences... I've yet to use one, myself, but I've heard good things about MCA Sports... CHAMBER ADAPTERS I'm sure there are other options, but if I think of anything else that springs to mind, I'll be sure to chime in. Good luck. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I shoot several of my AR's with the conversion kit and my outback II. No issues whatsoever for me. Technically, you should have the barrel threading check by a gunsmith to make sure it is bore-centric. I'm content, at least with better barrels, putting a fairly tight fitting carbon rod in the barrel with the suppressor installed as a quick check.. You will want a peel washer or two because the AR threads are about .100" longer and will protrude past most .22 cans threads and possibly lead to a removal issue due to carbon buildup. As far as the flash suppressor removal goes, a little heat will more than likely help, along with an armorers wrench.. A side benefit of the fast twist rate of AR's is I have been able to shoot the 60 gr Aguila subs. They are 100% reliable for me. |
