I'm looking for a budget fixed blade(around $50) to stash in a get home bag. I plan on upgrading at some point, but I need something to put in the bag for now. Anybody have any recommendations?

If you want something heavy duty and big enough to handle a lot of different tasks, try the Schrade fixed blades made from 1095.

Here is a good one with a MSRP of $50, but you can get it for less most places: Schrade Frontier Full Tang Drop Point Fixed Blade Knife - Taylor Brands

My fixed blade for deer season is a walmart special winchester knife that I've sharpened quite a bit. Daily carry in my truck...sadly, a smith and wesson cheapo lol

I recently switched my knife for the application you are describing from a Glock knife to a Cold Steel KOBUN...it's a very nice knife...it fits great in the hand...is has a solid, tanto-tip blade...the rubber grip that does not slip when wet...and came with really nice kydex holster + belt clip that fit onto the shoulder strap of my BOB with the grip right where I wanted it and where I can grab it while on the move if necessary, etc.

Can't go wrong with a Mora. I had one thay cost about 15 bucks and loved it. Upgraded to the Mora Black and that thing is a beast. Both together were under 100.
