Would you know what to do if you or someone else became ill or injured? ![]() Have fun and enjoy the outdoors as you learn Wilderness First Aid, which is providing emergency treatment to people who are more than one hour from definitive medical care. Upon successful completion of this course you will earn WFA certification valid for 3 years from the Emergency Care & Safety Institute. This course is sponsored by the Central Indiana Wilderness Club and Indy Parks and will be conducted at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis. ![]() Topics include: • What is Wilderness Medicine? • Taking Vital Signs• Legal Aspects of Care • Patient Assessment • Broken Bones, Sprains, and Strains • Gunshot, Knife, and Stab Wound Care • Venomous and Noxious Animals • Fishhook Removal • Diabetic Emergencies • Heart Attack • Stroke • Lightning Strike Safety and Treatment • Heat and Cold Emergencies • Improvised Splints • First Aid Kit Construction • And more! This course is open to anyone 14 years of age or older (under 18 requires parental consent and waiver). Tution includes instruction, student manual and supplies to use during the course. ![]() This highly interactive 16 hour program will be conducted by Jim Floyd, M.Ed. and Aaron Edwards, B.S., who are both certified as Wilderness Emergency Medical Technicians, NASAR Search & Rescue Technicians, Naturalists, and ECSI Instructors. Jim is also an Indiana Certified Emergency Medical Services Primary Instructor and has taught 19 EMT courses and multiple EMS Primary Instructor courses. You will learn so much more than a regular Red Cross 1st aid course and hopefully learn it in an environment similar to one you could find yourself in with a real deal medical emergency.
