Hi everyone, my wife on her own accord has decided she would like a handgun to carry concealed for self-defense purposes. She's trying to find something that fits her hand well and she doesn't mind shooting (she doesn't like my Sig p228's big grip). We went to Ace and Rico's (a shop here in Lafayette) today and she held some things she said she thought were okay but she really wants to shoot something before buying. So that's where you all come in... are there any lady's here who would like to go to the range with her, preferably with some sort of selection of firearms to try out? I prefer it be a woman or a husband/wife couple. We live in the Lafayette area but make trips to Indianapolis every so often to visit family so something could be arranged either location. Let me know! Thanks!

Since we had beautiful weather this weekend and were almost done in the fields we thought we would shoot some clays. She has shot clays with us before (her dad and me) but has not hit any, but she enjoys it anyway. Enjoy the pictures....

She wont wear muffs because they mess up her hair but she is wearing plugs and ultra stylish glass too! She prefers my 357 over any of the long guns, next time we shoot those I will put some of those pictures up too.

I think Annie needs a new animal mascot. Please take pity on this one. She was treated by government healthcare

Dolores who has lost all her body hair and has just been left with a few tufts around her head.
Vets have been left baffled by the condition of the bespectacled bear, who lives at a zoo in Leipzig.

Bare-faced: Dolores has a condition which means she has gone totally bald

And Dolores isn't the only one. The sudden hair loss has affected all female bears at the zoo.
Some experts believe it could be due to a genetic defect though the animals do not seem to be suffering from any other affliction.
The bears, which originate from South America, normally have fluffy dark brown fur and would now be growing a thicker fur coat to keep warm during the winter.

Wrinkly: All the female bears at the zoo have the same condition. They have become a bit of a crowd puller

Where's my fur coat gone? Dolores still has a ring of fur around her face. She lethal claws are clearly visible

But instead they have developed nasty rashes and inflammations on their skin.

Unfortunately for the bears, their lack of hair has been pulling in the crowds who want to see want to see the wrinkly animals.
Hopefully the zoo will be turning up the heat in their enclosure.

Full head of hair: These is how Dolores would have looked before she lost her fur. The spectacled bears have a thick, dark coat normally

"Why do you need another pistol?" she said.

I walked her back to her closet and flipped on the light. The shelves were lined with handbags and purses in varieties of sizes, colors, and brands.

"You sure have a lot of purses in here," I said. "Why so many?"

"Well, depending on where we're going or what I'm wearing, I might need to carry a different one. Little purse for when we go out on the town, big purse for a Saturday out with the kids."

I hoisted a thumb toward the dozen or so handbags, neatly stowed in their linen covers. "But you can only carry one at a time, right?" I said.

"Yes, just one at a time" she said.

I pulled the Ruger catalog from my back pocket, opened it, and pointed to the page. "This LCP is lightweight and very concealable. It doesn't print like the Sig."

"Yeah, okay, I get it," she said.

Not great yet, but combat effective. Hard to find lots of ammo to practice with unfortunately.

We took a trip to Wilbert Wright today for some fun. Shot the glocks, the 19 and 26 and tried out the P32 I picked up at the 1500, but my wife favorite new toy was the AR that I picked up a few weeks ago with M1 flip up sites. She had never shot one, did not want to. I talked her into it this time and she had a blast. This is going to cost me way to much money........

My wife, look at that smile.....:)

Just moved into a new place. Pretty unfamiliar with the area. My girlfriend came to visit and didn't feel like making the hour drive back up to her place that night and decided to stay the night after I had to go to work. When I was getting ready I checked a pistol and put it on. She asked if I was leaving anything for her! I showed her where I kept a loaded pistol and shotgun and went over the safety's and I had to go.

When I got back in the morning she took out the pistol from a different location and went to put it back where I kept it, and said she wanted to keep it closer to her because she didn't think she'd be able to get to it quick enough if anything happened. And that she felt a lot safer having it by her.

Anyway, I thought that was pretty cool. This is by no means a bad neighborhood. There are several armed co-workers living here. So, I'd say it's pretty safe.

My wife might like to go to one of these, I know the regular NRA classes we have attended were a little to "manly" for her :):

Shooting with your lady

Thought I'd show the kind of shooting I do with the ladies in my life. So, here we go. This is my wife, Julie, and I with the prairie dog she shot at 532 yards in South Dakota. The shot was made from right in front of that barn over my right shoulder. The gun is a Howa 1500 SV in .223.

Here she is shooting the Howa from a pickup bed in Oklahoma. There were some buffalo in the pasture which were of questionable social skills. :dunno:

Here's my grand daughter, Olivia, on her first trip to Crosley. She was loving every minute of it and so was Papaw. She did pretty well and asks when we're going again every time I see her!

Here's Julie set up in a prairie dog town in Colorado. She carries that Ruger Mark II for snakes. You can't see it but I think she was shooting her CZ 527 Varmint in .204 Ruger. In case you've never done any p doggin', each of those light spots is a p dog burrow. Can you say "target rich environment"?

Sadly, we only get to do this stuff twice a year. Gladly, we drive near 1000 miles to get there. :D

What kind of shooting do you do with your significant other/others?

I dont want expensive ammo or hard to find ammo and cant afford a expensive gun for her but i want something she will carry and its for her birthday so no i cant go and see what she is comfortable with and likes. She really doesnt care that much anyways i just want her to have something she will actually carry so not bulky she is kinda tiny so i like the CZ, plus the ammo is cheap.

Question for the women -- gun show incident

Today I took a lady from my church small group to the 1500 gun show. The last time she shot anything was about 17 years ago in high school. She wants to get a handgun for self protection, mainly inside her house, but the intent of today was really just to reintroduce her to the world of firearms.

Now here's some background. She's probably around 6 feet tall, and her hands are larger than mine (she used to be a piano player, and you can tell from the reach of her fingers). Now I would say that the first rule of picking out a handgun is it has to feel comfortable in your hands. If it's too big and you can't get a good hold on it, or if it's too small and is too uncomfortable in your hands, I say it's not a good fit for you. That in mind, my plan for the day was to show her as many types/styles of handguns as possible, let her handle them, and see what felt right to her.

So we're going through the show, and make it into the second room. By this time she's held probably two dozen guns of all types and calibers. We get down to the end of the row we're in, and a guy behind the table asks if he can help her. When she says that she's looking for a self defense piece for the home, what do you think he says? He tells her, "You need a revolver," and proceeds to point towards the little .38 special at the table. He goes on to explain that the revolver would be better than a semiauto for her because it's less complicated, has less parts that could break, and is safer to own and use.

After he's done talking to her, she walks away from the table to where I've moved to. She basically said that she felt that he was talking to her as if she was an idiot. I say that some people will tell all women that the only gun they should have is a revolver because they think that a semiauto is too complicated for a woman, and that I was sorry that we ran into that sexist man.

Now, maybe this guy just likes revolvers, but what happened next kills that possibility. Shortly after my friends conversation with the guy, I saw the man speaking to an older gentleman, who also wanted a gun for self defense. He was pointed over to the Glocks.

So I'm wondering if the women on this board have experienced similar situations? Do you get treated as if you don't know anything, and couldn't possibly handle X handgun? What do you think of this story?

By the way, by the end of the show, do you know what handgun my friend liked the most? The 1911 style .45.
